Make At Rosie Community Makerspace Hosts Free Craft Supply Swap for Austin Women and Nonbinary Makers & Crafters

[Austin, TX] - Make At Rosie Community Makerspace, a dynamic community makerspace dedicated to empowering women and nonbinary makers and allies, is hosting a free, community-wide craft supply swap on June 27, 2024 at 5:30pm.

Located in North Central Austin, Make At Rosie offers members and guests a robust array of tools and equipment to bring their artistic visions to life. From woodworking and laser cutting to 3D printing, vinyl cutting, and textile arts, the makerspace offers a dynamic environment where creativity knows no bounds. Make At Rosie’s flexible, inclusive membership options, partner workshops, and community-led classes offer a welcoming sanctuary for makers of all backgrounds and skill levels.

“There aren’t a lot of places where women, trans, femme-identifying, and nonbinary makers can come and learn about woodworking, laser-cutters, 3D printers, and other typically “masculine” tools,” says co-Founder Clairissa Simmons. “We founded Make At Rosie to be a space where people could build the confidence to create and craft in a typically male-dominated space. Our mission is to provide an inclusive, affordable space for makers to unleash their creativity and build real community.”

The craft swap begins at 5:30pm and extends into the evening, and is an opportunity to connect with fellow hobbyists, makers, and artists; save money and swap craft supplies; and explore Make At Rosie’s makerspace and tools.  Participants can:

  • Bring materials to swap, or just show up to shop

  • Get guided tours of the makerspace

  • See live demonstrations of the Glowforge Lasercutter, Ultimaker 3D printer, and more.

  • Participate in all-ages/skill craft stations for on-site crafting

  • Win door prizes including a month’s free membership

At the end of the swap, all materials in good condition will be donated to Austin Creative Reuse.

"We believe that everyone has the potential to be a maker, whether they’re 9 or 90, and we can’t wait to invite our Central Austin neighbors to become part of this vibrant creative community,” adds co-founder Cat Ashton. “There’s nothing more empowering or more fun than firing up the laser or tinkering in the woodshop. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting out, Make At Rosie has something for you.”
